An Afterlight work is composed twice. Once in pigment, texture, and form. And once in light — a sequence of authored illumination states that reveal, conceal, advance, and recede. The physical painting never changes. What you perceive does.
We call this authored perception — the artist composing not just what a work is, but how it unfolds to the eye over time.
